Thanksgiving is nearly here!

With the holidays just around the corner we know that looking great for the family photos is at the top of the list.  That being said, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and procrastinate making your hair, skin, and waxing appointments.  Do yourself the favor of taking just a few minutes right now to secure your appointment with your stylist and esthetician.  You’ll be so glad you did!  We’ll send you a reminder email or phone call the day before your appointment just in case you space.

We’re here to help you get ready for that special holiday event.  Book a blowout and makeup application to save  yourself the hassle of doing it at home.

Let Citrine help you look your best for the holiday season.

Going away for Labor Day?

Toss the razors!  It’s so nice to not have to worry about shaving while on vacation.  With Labor Day just a week away, it’s the perfect time to make your waxing appointment.  Think ahead as we tend to get busy just before holidays.  When you’re hanging out pool-side or splashing in the waves you’ll be so happy you got that leg and bikini wax out of the way.  If you’re prone to irritation or ingrown hairs, we have No Bump Rx available for purchase to help soothe skin post-waxing and help prevent future bumps.

If you’re new to the idea of waxing, check out my previous blog entry about bikini waxing, Brazilian and otherwise.

Brazilian wax vs. Basic bikini wax 101

“Are Brazilian bikini waxes popular?” It’s a question I’m asked nearly every day. Indeed they are very vogue! And the inevitable follow-up question is: “does it hurt?” While Brazilian waxing is not the most fun you’ll ever have, there are many ways to minimize the pain of bikini waxing.
But first, let’s get to the point. What *is* a Brazilian bikini wax? I like to call it “extreme bikini hair removal.” A Brazilian wax differs from a basic bikini wax in that little to no hair remains, while the basic wax removes the hair that would be visible outside your bathing suit lines.
Now that extreme bikini waxing has been a big trend for over a decade, I’ve discovered differences in regional lingo. There’s the “California,” the “Mohican,” the “landing strip,.” The list goes on. Here at Citrine Salon we just call it “Brazilian wax” and let you decide how much hair, if any, remains.

At Citrine I use Berin’s Blue and Jet Set hard waxes. By far, these are the least painful waxes I’ve found. They’re not sticky like soft honey or sugar based waxes. Best of all, there’s no sugar residue left on the skin for bacteria to feast on. “Hard wax” does not mat in the hair and is much easier to remove.

Here are some tips that can help make your waxing visit less painful:
–For your first time visit, make sure the hair is at least 1/4″ long, but not longer than three-quarters of an inch long. Too short hair = stubbly skin. Too long hair = more pain.
–Exfoliate the area to be waxed with a body brush or highly textured cloth the day before your appointment. The goal is to remove the dry outer layer of skin so that the hairs are accessible.  I also recommend a product like No Bump RX, which is available here for purchase, to exfoliate the inside of the follicle and soothe inflammation post-waxing.
–Schedule regular appointments (every 4-6 weeks) and you’ll find that your hair will grow in sparse and each hair is thinner. The longer you wait between appointments, the more unpleasant the experience.

Many of my clients are curious about the advent of waxing. Here’s a great site if you’re interested in learning about the history of hair removal. You might be surprised!
